Cute Gift Ideas for Mummy That Won’t Break Your Piggy Bank

Mother’s Day is around the corner again and you must be wondering what to give to the lady who gave you her all without taking a hefty loan from your piggy bank. Of course she is going to love whatever you get her, but the more thought you put into it, the more likely she will be able to see this.

Jewelry

For the mother who likes jewelry, you can purchase one of the following for her:

  • Nameplate bracelet
  • Love ring
  • Dual birthstone ring with you and your mother’s birthstones.

Breakfast in bed

For the mother who likes her food, you can make a nice breakfast in bed surprise for her. But instead of the same old toast with scrambled eggs and bacon, try out something new. Here are some innovative breakfast ideas:

  • Blueberry-Flax buttermilk pancakes
  • Pistachio-Apricot granola
  • Sesame toast with poached eggs and avocado
  • Tomato, scallion and cheese frittata
  • Strawberry yogurt smoothie

Sweet things

If you have a flair for baking, you can indulge your Mummy in something sweet. Most baking ingredients are available at home. Just buy some quality chocolates and garnish it to make it your own. These are some of the desserts you can whip up fairly quickly that taste delicious!

  • Chocolate peanut butter tart
  • Raspberry cheesecake
  • Coffee meringue ice cream cake
  • Rhubarb/Apple/Pineapple upside down cake

Gardening tools

If your Mummy is into gardening, you can try adding to the stock of her gardening equipment by gifting these:

  • Plant seeds. You can buy some exotic seeds online if your budget allows.
  • Small ceramic pots that you can personalize with your own quotes or names using fabric colors.
  • Colorful gardening gloves
  • Plastic shovels and rakes

These are but a few of the many cute mummy gifts that you can give your mom to let her know you care. Not only are they inexpensive, they are creative and will be loved by just about any mother.

Inspire Your Child to Read Over Winter Break

Inspiring children to read isn’t always difficult – every so often, a specific book or books will capture the imagination and they will voraciously devour every word and then clamor for more reading material on related subjects. Once that reading habit is developed, most children will continue to view books as an essential part of their leisure time and not a chore or homework.

However, all is not lost if a child isn’t an avid reader – the reading habit is easily acquired and some or all of these steps may be useful in helping a child fall in love with books:

Join your local library. The beauty of this is that the child is immediately surrounded by a community of readers. There may be reading clubs or even book groups for children which run during the holidays, encouraging children to view reading as the social activity it can be when favorite books are shared and discussed with others.

Use current interests. If a reluctant reader has a passion for a particular area or theme, there's a good chance it will be well-represented both in fiction and non-fiction. Again, the library is useful for road-testing books and finding subject areas that appeal.

Be alert of latent problems with hostile readers. Occasionally, an unwillingness to read can be an indicator of the child needing extra help. Rather than baby their reading material with books meant for younger children, age-appropriate graphic novels can help to encourage the development of reading skills and give them the confidence to improve.

Read together. Make reading together time fun and a treat. Put together a small picnic and find something exciting where short chapters end on a cliffhanger. Encourage children to differentiate between dialog and description by using different voices for different characters when they speak.

Get them writing.Imagination is the most valuable tool a child has and writing their own stories will teach them how to appreciate a good book all the more.

Give books as gifts. Many of us have books that were given to us as children and have remained precious.
